Beiriz
About
For more than 100 years, Beiriz Rugs has been handcrafting rugs in Portugal.
Our story began in 1919, in the small town of Beiriz, Póvoa de Varzim, just 15 minutes from Porto, and within a decade our rugs were reaching homes and projects around the world. Passed down through generations, we continue to create pieces that bring together artisanal tradition and contemporary language, collaborating with architects, designers and international projects to shape unique interiors.
A legacy of excellence
Since 1919
For more than a century, Beiriz has preserved the art of handcrafted rug making in Portugal.
Founded in the north of the country, the brand has grown through generations, preserving the knowledge of manual craftsmanship while developing an identity defined by authenticity, detail, and timelessness.
Today, we continue to create pieces that combine artisanal tradition with contemporary language, collaborating with architects, designers, and international projects to create unique environments.

Heritage
Over 100 years of Portuguese manufacturing tradition, built in the north of the country and passed down through generations. A legacy that lives in every rug we make.
Craftsmanship
Manual knowledge and techniques carried since 1919, present in every stage of production — from the first sketch to the final finishing. Skills that no machine can replicate.
Timeless Rugs made to last
We create rugs designed to endure — in quality, in character, and in style. Pieces that belong to any moment in time and grow with any interior.
Customisation
Every rug is developed for a specific project, a specific space and a specific vision.
Authenticity
An identity built on material, texture and detail. Nothing standard, nothing repeated. Always unique.
Our Essence

Our
Know-How
Each rug is developed with careful attention to texture, material, colour and comfort.
From the initial design to the final finishing, every stage reflects the artisanal dedication that defines Beiriz’s identity.
We produce hand-tufted pieces and fully customised solutions, adapted to the vision and needs of each project.

At Beiriz, tradition and innovation are come together through a continuous commitment to craftsmanship and design. Since 1919, our handknotted rugs have defined the essence of the brand, while our expertise in handtufting allows us to explore new textures, finishes, and creative possibilities for contemporary interiors.
Advanced technologies support and refine our artisanal processes, enabling close collaboration with architects and designers worldwide. Through precise technical development and exceptional craftsmanship, each rug is conceived as a bespoke piece that preserves the heritage, authenticity, and timeless character of Beiriz.

Design
& Customisation
At Beiriz, selecting a rug is more than a choice. It is an expression of your vision, your space, and your story. Our design team works closely with architects, designers, and private clients to develop pieces that respond precisely to each project and each interior.
Our designs balance contemporary aesthetics with timeless principles, spanning six distinct categories: Geometric, Organic, Gradient, Texture, Floral, and Classic, each offering a different visual language to suit any space.
Every rug is made to measure. Size, shape, colour, material, and technique are defined in close dialogue with the client. Colours are selected from our Pom Boxes, and we make every effort to achieve the closest possible match in production. Our hand-tufted rugs can be produced in cut pile, loop, cut-and-loop, or shag pile, using the same premium fibres found across our collections.
From design proposal to sampling, tufting, and finishing, every stage is approached with the same dedication.
Finishing touches, whether shearing, trimming, or carving, are completed entirely by hand, ensuring each piece leaves our atelier in Portugal at the standard the Beiriz name demands.

Selected
Premium Materials
The choice of material is where every rug begins.
We work with a carefully selected range of premium fibres: New Zealand Wool, Fine Wool, Tencel, Bamboo Silk, Biodegradable PET, and Cotton. Each is chosen for its texture, character, and the specific quality it brings to a space.
High-quality wool, Tencel, cotton, and natural fibres create not only visual beauty but lasting durability. We also work with Biodegradable PET, a certified sustainable yarn made from post-consumer materials such as plastic bottles. Soft, durable, and biodegradable, it reflects our commitment to more responsible production, certified by the Global Recycled Standard (GRS).
We believe true sustainability lies in creating timeless products, crafted with care and designed to endure. These are rugs built to retain their quality for years to come.
Sustainability
A conscious approach to rug creation guides every stage of our process, combining artisanal tradition, durability, and the careful selection of materials. We work with natural and responsibly sourced fibres such as wool, cotton, lyocell, bamboo, and recycled PET yarns certified by the Global Recycled Standard (GRS), chosen for their quality, comfort, and longevity.
We believe true sustainability lies in creating timeless rugs, crafted with attention to detail and designed to endure over time. Produced in Portugal, each piece reflects respect for artisanal knowhow and a commitment to more responsible production processes.
All waste generated during our production process is recycled. Discontinued yarns are repurposed by visual artists and donated to art schools, supporting creative and professional development.
Beiriz factory is equipped with solar panels installed on the facility’s rooftop, which have already generated 93.58 MWh of renewable energy. This production has prevented the emission of 44.45 tonnes of CO₂, equivalent to planting 61 trees, and has also saved approximately 37.43 tonnes of coal, reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
